If you know me...
you may know that a LOT of my stories or sentences start off with, "I was reading..." or "I read this study..." or "On one of my baby pages... " (blogs). I love information and I really love reading and talking about babies, birth, breastfeeding, babywearing, so on so forth.
So here it goes...Today I was reading on facebook and someone posed the question, "How did your significant other do during your labor and birth of your child(ren)?" I started thinking about it and I honestly got all choked up thinking about it. If you have had a child, especially an unmedicated birth, you may know about "Labor Land." This is a special place your mind goes while you are in labor to cope with the pain of childbirth. Right after my birth, some of my memories of the end of my labor and delivery were a little hazy because I was so intensely focused on getting my baby out of me! Over the past few months, bits and pieces of my labor have sneaked back into my memory and allowed me to reflect fondly on them.
My husband was so amazing during my labor and birth. He was amazing postpartum. Hes an amazing guy, period. He was so encouraging and sensitive to me. He was my rock. He was so assuring. I remember looking at his calm excitement and I felt like I was doing ok. (This was after transition and I was thinking, "Hm, I think I want a c-section. I want to go home.") He did things for me that anyone else would be sicked out about. My amniotic fluid RUSHED out of me after Nora was delivered and completely drenched his right side.
I will always have this memory of him. The night we got home, 3ish hours after Nora was born, he kept having to get up to help me walk to the bathroom. I had to pee like every 20 seconds it felt like. Here is my wonderful, sweet, loving husband holding our tiny beeb on one shoulder and helping me limp to the bathroom. He cut the sides of my depends, (yes, adult diapers. Lovely. Much easier than a pad) because it hurt me to lift up my foot, threw them away and put a new one on for me. THAT IS LOVE.
I am so blessed with a great husband who loves me and our sweet baby.
